DETERGENT COMPOSITIONS

There is provided a detergent composition adapted for use in machine dishwashing providing reduced tendency to damage glassware containing sodium silicate at a level (measured as SiO2) of from 1 % to 11 % by weight wherein said composition has a pH measured as a 1 % solution in distilled water at 20 DEG C of from 9.0 to 11.5. Preferably, the composition contains a crystal growth inhibitor component. When the composition contains an oxygen-releasing bleach system it also preferably contains an Mn(II) compound to reduce the propensity for silver tarnishing to occur.
