An apparatus for generating head-switching signals for a magnetic-tape apparatus having a rotating scanning device (1) is proposed, in which there are fastened on the circumference a plurality of magnetic heads (P1 to P16, R1 to R16, E1, E2), assigned to which are rotating amplifiers, which are connected in signal terms via rotating transformers (TP1 to TP8; TR1 to TR8; TE) to stationary devices on a stator side. Provided on the stator side of the rotating scanning device is a generator (12) for generating a phase-data signal, which comprises a periodically recurring pulse sequence (Fig. 4a) which is limited by synchronising pulses (S) and which contains between the synchronising pulses a bit-serial sequence of pulses which are combined in groups (G1 to G4) and the pulse edges of which control the timing with which the signals are relayed from and to the magnetic heads (P1 to P16, R1 to R16, E1, E2). On the rotor side, a register arrangement with feedback (25, 26, 27) derives the head-switching signals (SP1 to SP8, SR1 to SR8, SE) from the optically transmitted phase-data signal. <IMAGE>
