Device for controlling photocoagulation effects in the human eye

There is specified a device which permits measurement of the effect of the ophthalmological therapy form of photocoagulation of the pigmentary epithelium of the eye in real time and control thereof by coupling with the laser apparatus used. The device comprises a photodetector which has associated electronic components and measures the relative change in transmission or reflectivity of the pigmentary epithelium treated with the therapeutic radiation and interrupts this therapeutic radiation on the basis of a threshold value criterion. Measurement utilises scattered radiation which can be recorded even if the site of therapy itself is not directly accessible optically.
