The invention is intended to improve oil return in refrigeration plants operated using ammonia. It has been found that dimethyl ether is soluble in ammonia and customary refrigeration machine oils, so that dimethyl ether acts as a solubiliser for ammonia and the refrigeration machine oil which are insoluble in one another.
