Solid particles are transferred from a first chamber 12, 112 (for example, a combustion chamber of a fluidized bed reactor) to another, adjacent chamber 30, 110 (for example, a transport and/or treatment chamber) by means of a material lock 38, 39, 112 arranged in a partition between the chambers, a controllable material valve or both. The transport gas is fed to the first chamber to feed the solid material particles in a number of particle streams from the first chamber to the second. A number of narrow adjacent channels 42a, 42b, ... 42e, 42f, 122, are present in the partition 20, 114 for which the ratio between the height and length is less than 0.05 and whose height is less than 50 mm and which function as a material lock and controllable material valve in the partition. The transport gas can be fed through the bottom into the first chamber, through the partition which is situated in the center of the partition or via both. The partition in the first chamber can be lined with refractory and the channels therein made of a combustible material that burns away when the refractory lining is heated. The channels from the first chamber to the second can also slope upward, for example, about 15 degrees. <IMAGE>
