<p>A compound of formula (I) or a salt thereof, wherein: R1 is hydrogen, methoxy or formamido; R2 is an acyl group; CO2R3 is a carboxy group or a carboxylate anion, or R3 is a readily removable carboxy protecting group or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt-forming group or (in vivo) hydrolysable ester group; X is S, SO, SO2 or CH2; R4 is a bicyclic group (a), where m is 1 or 2; wherein one of Y or Z is O, S, SO or SO2 and the other is CH2, and wherein R4 may be unsubstituted or may have one or more optional substituents R5. The compounds of formula (I) have antibacterial activity. Processes for making them and formulations including them are described.</p> |
