An air bag 18 for a passenger or rear seat is made by superposing a lower panel 34 and an upper panel 36 and sewing the edges together. The lower panel is provided with an inflator opening 38 and vent holes 40. The bag may be of a long, thin shape, so that it inflates towards the waist of a vehicle occupant (fig. 9). Embodiment 18A is made by folding a single sheet of cloth 62. The lower cloth may be dissuaded from unfolding as fast as the upper cloth by sewing in a pocket (XII, fig. 11), which may enclose the vent holes (fig. 12), and opens as the bag inflates. <IMAGE> |
