PURPOSE:To produce graphitic refractories by firing in a shortened firing time without using a metallic vessel or expensive gaseous nitrogen. CONSTITUTION:When compacts contg. graphite and using resin as a binder are fired to produce graphitic refractorier, purified exothermic gas is used as nonoxidizing gas and carbonization firing is carried out in an atmosphere having <=0.5% concn. of oxygen in a kiln. By this method, firing can be carried out in a short time without deteriorating physical property values attained by the conventional technique and the cost of production can be considerably reduced. Products are delivered to a user in a short period of time and it can be expected to considerably improve working environment because the handling of coke breeze is made unnecessary. |
