PURPOSE:To provide the subject film excellent in resistance to scratch and shaving, and improved in the wear resistance of edges when slitted therewith, thus useful esp. as a base film for magnetic recording media. CONSTITUTION:The objective biaxially oriented polyester film containing a total of 0.05-1.0wt.% of (A) aluminum oxide fine particles 50-150m<2>/g in specific surface area and 0.05-0.3mum in average diameter and (B) titanium dioxide fine particles 40-100m<2>/g in specific surface area and 0.05-0.3mum in average diameter with the weight ratio B/A of 0.02 to 0.4.
