The invention is concerned with novel 9-amino-acridine derivatives having the general formula: wherein R is H or CH3; R1 is H, CH3 or Br; R3 is H, C1-C5 alkyl, arylmethyl or diethylaminoethyl; X is C = O or CHOH; and Y is CH2; or X together with Y represent CH = CH, and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts. The 9-aminoacridine derivatives of the invention exhibit psychotropic, antiamnestic and lipid-regulating activities.
