A sugarless, anhydrous chewing gum composition and confectionery coated chewing gum product having low-moisture pick-up and a firm texture which facilitates coating thereof, e.g., a confectionery coating over a pelletized gum form. The composition includes gum base in an amount of from about 18% to about 75% by weight, and a low-moisture pick-up bulking agent which both inhibits moisture pick-up and provides enhanced firmness and texture to the final composition. Preferably, the low-moisture pick-up bulking agent is the isomalt PALATINIT?.
