PURPOSE:To easily produce a high-functional dense ceramic by mounting aluminum on the base material consisting of the ceramic containing a silica-based glass, heating it to the elevated temp. more than a specified temp. and allowing the aluminum to react with a base material component. CONSTITUTION:The base material consisting of the dense or porous ceramic containing the silica-based glass or the silica-based substance generating a vitreous phase at the time of heating is prepared. Then, the aluminum is mounted on the surface of the base material in contact with a part of the surface of the base material, and heated to >=660 deg.C, and the reaction of the aluminum with the silica-based glass in the base material is started. Then, the aluminum is allowed to react with the silica-based material such as cristobalite, mullite and kaolin in the base material or moreover oxygen in an atmosphere with this reaction as a trigger, and a part or all of the base material is converted to a dense ceramic/aluminum/silicon composite material, and a dense ceramic is obtained. |
