PURPOSE:To obtain a new phenol derivative capable of forming a highly dielectric liquid crystal, useful as an intermediate for a highly dielectric liquid crystalline material having an excellent properties like a quick responsiveness, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound is expressed by formula I [wherein, R<1> is a 1-20C saturated or an unsaturated alkyl, a 2-20C saturated or an unsaturated alkoxyalkyl, H, or further an OH protecting group when m=1; R<2> is an OH protecting group; A<1>-A<3> each is a group expressed by formula II to formula VII (i is 0-4; j and k each is 0-3), etc.; p and q each is 0 or 1; when A<1> is a condensed ring, p+q is 0 or 1 and A<2> and A<3> each is a single ring, p+q is 1 or 2 when A<1> is a single ring, and A<2> and A<3> each is a single ring when p+q=2; Z is H or F; n is 0-10; m and r each is 0 or 1], for example, 5- hydroxy-2-4(3-trimethylsilyloxy-1-butyl) phenylpyrimidine. This compound is obtained by a hydrogenation of a compound of fozmula X derived from a reaction of a halogenated compound of formula VIII with an acetylenic compounds of formula IX in the presence of a metallic catalyst and a basic material. |
