PURPOSE:To clean exhaust gas from an engine by heating a high frequency heat generating material which has a catalytic function to clean exhaust gas from a started gasoline engine, etc., utilizing high frequency energy. CONSTITUTION:A high frequency heat generating material 8 is composed of a high frequency absorbing material 1 (or 16) having a fiber material as a supporter and a catalyst material 5. The high frequency heat generating material 8 of this composition, having reduced heat capacity, can be heated in a short time to temperatures at which its catalytic function is activated so that exhaust gas containing harmful carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons from a started engine can be cleaned. By loading a catalyst 4 on the high frequency absorbing material 1, 16, the function for cleaning hydrocarbons can be improved. |
