<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a tetrahydrofuran useful for solvents and various kinds of synthetic intermediate raw materials, etc., by using a sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin containing a styrene-based crosslinked copolymer as a substrate as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin obtained by binding a sulfonic acid group to a crosslinked copolymer of styrene and a divinylbenzene having 8-16 of divinylbenzene component content (degree of crosslinking) is used as a catalyst. The catalyst is packed into a reacting tube having a fixed bed, and 1,4-butanediol is passed through the reacting tube at 90 deg.C reactional temperature under 3.5kg/cm<2>G reactional pressure and subjected to heating and cyclodehydration to provide the objective tetrahydrofuran useful as a raw material for various kinds of synthetic intermediate in high conversion and selectivity. Thereby, a sulfonic acid group of the catalyst is hardly eliminated and activity of the catalyst is kept for a long period and the apparatus is hardly eroded and equipment cost and maintenance cost are reduced.</p> |
