The invention relates to a kinetic-effect sub-calibre fin-stabilised projectile having a very slender profile. A kinetic-effect projectile of this type, or penetrator, is subjected, disadvantageously, during the impact on the target, to an extremely high rupture load and leads to a high consumption of energy. In the kinetic-effect projectile according to the invention, these drawbacks are largely avoided by providing the body (10) of the projectile, in a region going from the front tip (nose) of the projectile as far as approximately halfway down this body (10), with longitudinal grooves (16) arranged symmetrically on the periphery, these grooves allowing easier rearward plastic flow of the upset (pushed-back) material of the target from the dynamic pressure zone at the front of the tip (14) of the penetrator. <IMAGE>
