In a press for the production of mouldings in powder metallurgy or industrial ceramics, a press mould comprising a die (39) and at least one punch (37) is arranged in an adapter (11) inserted into the press frame (1), said adapter having a transverse part (18) carrying the die (39) and, above this, an upper transverse part (21) carrying the punch (37), the two parts being able to be moved relative to each other through the press frame (1) by means of a punch guide (19), whilst maintaining their alignment with each other, their movement towards each other being limited by stop columns (28) which are arranged on the first transverse part (18) symmetrically to the press axis. On the underside of the upper transverse part (21), via two pressure pieces (30) which are arranged at a distance from each other and symmetrically to the press axis, there is fastened a further transverse part (31) having an interspace with respect to the upper transverse part (21), and the punch (37) of the press mould (39, 37) is fitted to the further transverse part (31). The pressure pieces (30) are in each case arranged above one of the stop columns (28). By this means, the depth of penetration of the punch (37) into the die (39) is actually securely limited irrespective of filling faults, the stop columns (28) on their own being insufficient for this. <IMAGE>
