Process and apparatus for the production of cigarillos

Cigarillos have a helically wound cover sheet which is applied in the moist state. To allow a mechanical drying of the cigarillos, the tobacco strands (14) wrapped in a cover sheet are transported along a conveying stage (22), and they are exposed to the effect of a drying device (27). So that all the surface regions of the tobacco strands are dried uniformly, the tobacco strands are constantly rotated or overturned on the conveying stage (22). This avoids a warping of the tobacco strands. After the drying, the tobacco strands are trimmed at their ends. The cigarillos are subsequently ready for packaging. <IMAGE>
