<p>The present invention relates to the use of proteinaceous materials for use in inhibiting the production of sunburn cells in skin in response to ultraviolet radiation. In particular, the invention provides a topical formulation for inhibiting sunburn cell production in skin exposed to ultraviolet radiation, comprising an amount of a free flowing seed derived material having a protein content of between about 1 % to 50 % and an average particle size of from about 1.0νm to 600νm effective to inhibit sunburn cell formation in skin upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation by 50 percent relative to untreated skin in a topically acceptable carrier. Also provided is a method for inhibiting the formation of sunburn cells in skin when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet radiation, comprising applying a composition including a sunburn cell protective amount of a substantially chemically intact proteinaceous particulate material derived from seeds in a topically acceptable carrier to the skin prior to exposure to ultraviolet radiation.</p> |
