Vehicle roof with slats for closing or opening a roof opening, the slats forming, in the closed position, a flat group of slats and at their narrow sides being guided in such a manner at two guide points along guides fixed on the roof that the group of slats is broken up slat for slat on opening the roof, by pivoting individual slats, or is reproduced on closing the roof. Provided along a common guide track are displaceable bearing units in which both the rear guide point of one of the slats and the front guide point of the next slat in the group of slats are mounted, and which bearing units are, as a result, connected together in a positively locking manner by way of the slats themselves or by way of a slat support. The bearing units are provided with a locking device which is controlled as the function of the adjusting movement of the group of slats and releases the rear guide point of the slat concerned, for a deploying movement, when opening the roof, or when closing the roof latches to the bearing unit if the latter, over the course of its displacing movement, reaches a predetermined position with respect to the guide fixed on the roof.
