File name acquisition method for use with an operating system

An operating system for handling a file system which has a hierarchical structure stores a directory directly before a file, when the latter is opened, in order to agree with a file designation. If a call determines the file designation, the stored directory is passed to the call for the purpose of correspondence with the file designation. The call reads the stored information from the directory in order to determine the file name.
