The woven yarn is continuously taken from a supply package at a pre-determined speed and wound onto a take-up package at a lower speed partially to stretch the yarn. The partly stretched yarn is then taken through a steam chamber, in which the steam is restricted to an area next to the moving yarn. This is immediately followed by taking the yarn through an unrestricted steam zone which, with regard to the chamber, is directed in the direction of yarn movement. The duration of the yarn in the unrestricted steam zone is at least as great as that in the steam chamber. Steaming the partly stretched yarn develops the latent crimp uniformly, and the yarn shrinks and swells before being wound onto the take-up package when shrunk. Spec., the yarn is thermoplastic and has more than one filament. |
