The invention relates to a coating device, preferably for paper or board webs, having a doctor element constructed as a coating blade, having the following features: a base element which is intended to be coated serves as the support for the coating blade clamped in a clamping means; a first loading device is located in the vicinity of the (free) metering edge of the coating blade; a further loading unit engages on the coating blade between the clamping means and the first loading device. The invention is characterised by the following features a press strip is provided which is fastened to the coating blade or bears on this in the region of its free metering edge, preferably between 0 and 40 mm distant from this, and the first loading device engages on the press strip.
