The invention relates to an electric tool for working a workpiece, preferably a hand-held electric tool, such as an electric drill (1), hammer drill and the like. The electric tool has an electric motor (6) which is located in a housing (3) and has the purpose of driving a working spindle (4), a tool-holding fixture (5) for the tool (7) which serves for the working of the workpiece (2) being arranged on the working spindle (4). A measuring device (9) for measuring characteristic quantities in respect of the position of the tool-holding fixture (5) with respect to the workpiece (2) is arranged on the housing (3). The measuring device (9) is connected to an evaluation device (11) for determining a quantity representing the position, on the basis of the characteristic quantity. This quantity representing the position can be output on a display device (12) connected to the evaluation device (11). <IMAGE>
