<p>A method of multi-path coding for coding digitised stereoscopic television pictures, in which the digitised pictures are processed in various paths comprising at least one motion-estimation path. The method according to the invention is notable in that, in the motion-estimation path, a digitised input picture is partitioned into blocks of picture points in order to provide one motion vector per block and an error per block point and in that, for each block, there are calculated (210, 220, 230, 270) a set of values relating to an average EMB of the errors in the block, a standard deviation ECT of the errors in the block, a mean deviation ECM of the errors in the block, a magnitude Va of the motion vector of the block in order to make an "a priori" choice (240, 245, 250, 260, 265, 275) of the particular processing path assigned to the said block on the basis of the said set of values. <IMAGE> </p> |
