<p>Claims a process for the preparation of a ditertiary peroxide by the reaction of an olefinic compound with a tertiary hydroperoxide as specified. Specifically claimed are 2-(tert. butylperoxy)-2,4,4-trimethylpentane, and 1,4-bis-(tert. butylperoxyisopropyl)-benzene. Also claims a process for crosslinking a polyolefin or vulcanising a natural or synthetic rubber, in which the catalyst comprises 1,4-bis-(tert. butylperoxyisopropyl)-benzene. The vulcanisation of ethylene-propylene copolymer is described in an example.</p> |
