The alkanes may be mixed with olefins. A portion of at least one of the hydrocarbons is introduced into the reaction zone, the remainder of the hydrocarbons together with O2 is led into the reaction zone through one of several entry points. The distance between the entry points is defined. Oxidation takes place at 425-575 degrees C and at 17.5 atmos.
