PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of dictionary retrieval by not offering only equivalent information on an idiomatic phrase and an example, but displaying relative dictionary information such as part of speech of index words where the idiomatic word and example are registered and meaning information without further trouble in retrieval when the idiomatic word and example are retrieved. CONSTITUTION:A retrieval means 3 retrieves an idiomatic word data base in a storage means 2 on the basis of a character string which is inputted from an input means 1, and obtains the meaning position in a dictionary where the idiomatic word is explained by making a painter trace the dictionary. The obtained result is displayed by a display means 5 by an interactive interface function 4, together with an equivalent to the idiomatic word, part of speech that it belongs to, the meaning, and meaning information, and equivalent information on other idiomatic words. Then information on index words before and after it can also be read, so that a user can operate the electronic dictionary like he or she read an actual dictionary successively to example retrieval. |
