Aryl-sulphonyl ureas of formula wherein R1 represents phenyl which may be substituted by halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, and/or lower acylamino, and R2 represents lower alkyl or cycloalkyl, are prepared by reacting a urea derivative of formula with a sulphinic acid halide of formula R1-SOHal, or with a corresponding sulphinic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof, in the presence of an acid halide such as thionyl chloride, phosgene, chlorosulphonic acid, acetyl chloride and benzoyl chloride.
