PURPOSE:To provide a multizone air conditioner in which an outdoor unit can immediately respond to state changes in indoor units thereby to eliminate a malfunction such as an abnormal rise of a high pressure-side pressure at the time of heating and a suitable operating mode decision in each indoor unit is performed to improve reliability. CONSTITUTION:One outdoor unit 1 is connected to a plurality of indoor units 11, 12,..., n directly or indirectly through a repeater via a pair of signal lines 3, and data is transmitted and received between the unit 1 and the each indoor unit in a time division manner. Number of a hierarchy for indicating whether an apparatus of a connecting destination of each indoor unit is the unit 1 or a repeater is identified, and when a control operation of each indoor unit becomes necessary, its control operation is executed by delaying a predetermined time Tdel. The time Tdel for delaying corresponds at least to a necessary time for circulating data transmission and reception between the unit 1 and each indoor unit.
