PURPOSE:To provide a novel polysaccharide having a specific mol.wt., composed from specified saccharides, having an excellent hematinic function-improving action, and useful for the therapy and prevention of disorders caused by the exposure of radiations. CONSTITUTION:This polysaccharide containing arabinose, galactose, glucose, rhamnose, galacturonic acid, and glucuronic acid in amounts of >=1mol.%, respectively, as composing saccharides, and having a mol.wt. of 50000-1000000. The polysaccharide is obtained by grinding Angelicae radix, its original plant: Angelica acutiloba in the Umbelliferae, or its analogous plant, (hot) extracting the ground product with an approximately 10-20 times amount of an aqueous solvent, centrifuging the extract, lyophilizing the supernatant, dissolving the dried product with an organic solvent such as acetone or methanol, centrifuging the solution, dissolving the lipid-removed precipitates in water, dialyzing the solution, lyophilizing the non-dialyzed material, and subsequently purifying the obtained crude fraction with various kinds of chromatography, etc. |
