<p>Hot top for ingot moulds consisting of a number of panels of highly insulating material embedded in a mat of mineral material which is flexible, compressible and heat resistant. The panels are deposited in a row on the mat by moulding in the wet state by pressure or vacuum. The ensemble so formed may then be bent to form the hot top which is fitted into the top of the mould. The mat stretches over the free edges of one of the heat panels in the row and underneath the panels so that it may be used as a sealing joint to prevent escape of molten metal when the hot top is in place.</p> |
