PURPOSE:To improve the performance of a data processing unit by executing a high speed bus access with a block transfer function in the burst mode and executing a string operation instruction and a bit map operation instruction efficiently. CONSTITUTION:The processing unit is provided with a bus interface section 157 having a string operation instruction and a bit map operation instruction and inputting/outputting data by a burst transfer function and an integral number arithmetic section 155 incorporating two ALUs (main and sub ALUs) to execute repetitively the processing of sending/receiving data with an external memory through a data bus 102. Thus, even when an inexpensive and low speed memory system is connected to the processing unit, the data processing unit processes string data and bit map data at a high speed. |
