Glass composed of silica and at least one other glass forming oxide is coated with at least one cationic compound which is decomposed into a glass forming oxide for long enough at a temp. lower than the softening point of the glass. The cation has a field intensity of 0.7-1.5 in the oxide state where field intensity is defined as 2Z/a2, 'Z' being an atomic valency of the cation and 'a' representing a distance between the cation and the oxygen ion.
|
