Shed comprising one or more pens for keeping animals, such as cows, pigs, horses or sheep, in which each pen is divided into various areas, such as a manure area which is suitable for holding and discharging excrement from the animals, and a living area where the animals will normally stand or lie, wherein upwardly directed projections are arranged on the floor of only those areas where it is necessary to guard against long-term residence by the animals, for example in the manure area, which projections leave a space between them which is sufficient for the hoof, toe or paw of an animal to fit between them with considerable freedom.
