Programmable plate bending machine - with CPU, sensors for roll positions, RAM for program based on sensed positions etc. for fine tolerances

A programmable plate bending machine comprises upper and lower rolls (11, 12), lateral bending rolls (13, 14), and control means (19, 22, 23) for raising and lowering the rolls (12, 13, 14) so as to bend a plate (15) with a preset nominal dia. The machine has (a) signal generator (21, 33) indicating the positions of the lower roll and lateral rolls respectively; (b) a central processing unit (26), with a first memory (EPROM) for the operative program and second memory (RAM) for the main working program, connected to the signal means. The CPU generates positioning signals for the rolls, and the RAM stores the main working program on the basis of the signals. Pref. the machine has (c) means (28, 33) for automatically compensating the position of the lateral rolls, after measuring the thickness of the plate.
