A transmission for an automatic washing machine comprises a housing (12), a driving gear (4), a number of two-stepped planet gears (6) with a carrier pin (7), a ring gear (11) meshed with the planet gears, a pinion gear (8) meshed with the upper teeth of the planet gear by a clutch spring (29), an internal output gear (10) meshed with the ring gear at the upper portion of the planet gear, a crank (13) corresponding to the internal output gear and connected with a link gear (15) fixed to the housing by a pin (14), a washing pinion gear (28) mounted on a member (16) fixed on a washing shaft (3), and a dewatering shaft (17) positioned over the washing shaft and fixed to a hub (25) of the tub.
