1290952 Making hollow ware; stamping; angular bending SOC ALUREC 10 March 1970 [13 March 1969] 11339/70 Headings B3A B3E and B3Q Apparatus for making containers of folded metal sheet comprises a vertically reciprocable die 1, a plunger 7 biased upwardly by a spring 27, a cavity block 6 whose walls are of lesser height than the side walls of the die 1, and a guide member 2 on each side wall of the cavity block which is displaceable horizontally towards the die 1, is biased towards the corresponding side wall of the die by a spring 4 and is narrower in width than the corresponding side wall of the cavity block. In operation the die 1 is raised, and a metal sheet placed on the plunger 7 and the die is then moved downwardly. The sheet is gripped between the die and plunger and taken into the cavity block 6 when the biased guide members 2 push a large portion of the sheet against the side walls of the die, leaving free only those portions situated opposite the upright edges of the die. Thus a loop 19 is formed opposite each of these edges and as the die descends further, the gap between corresponding side faces of the die and cavity block is reduced. As a result the loops 19 are flattened to form pairs of folds (29 and 39) symmetrical with one another. |
