In order to clean the inner tubes, through which dusty, hot gases flow, of a heat exchanger formed from double-pipe batteries (coils), the annular space between the inner and outer tubes of the double-pipe battery being provided with spacers and having coolant (cooling medium) flowing through them, the outer tubes of the individual tube batteries are connected to one another by impact rods at at least one level. The annular space is provided on the central axis of the impact rods with pins which have a circular cross-section and are connected to the outer tubes and project in the annular space up to a distance of approx. 1 mm from the inner tubes. The end of the pin is matched to the cross-sectional profile of the inner tube, and the outer tubes respectively provided with jacket tubes (enveloping tubes) which are fastened to the inlet and outlet manifolds, respectively, and the annular space between the outer tube and the jacket tube is filled with vibration-damping (vibration-absorbing) material.
