In order to hold between two points workpieces to be measured, provision is made for a holding device which has a first point, preferably mounted on a turntable, and a second point arranged vertically above the first point and connected, for example, to a weight. The second point is mounted axially displaceably in an abutment held by an abutment column via a cantelever. The workpiece, provided with two mutually opposite centre holes, is clamped between both points, with the force required for clamping the workpiece not acting on the feeling device. Consequently, no bending moments which bend the abutment column arise at all during the clamping of the workpiece. The fixing of the workpiece is thus very precise. There is no risk of the second point being laterally offset.
