<p>Wastepaper containing printing ink is refined in the presence of the reaction products of castor oil with an alkoxylated fatty acid, alcohol, amine, amide, phosphate ester, polyhydroxy alcohol, or sorbitan, and the detached printing ink particles are subsequently removed from the paper stock suspensions by flotation or washing. in another embodiment, wastepaper containing printing ink is refined in the presence of deinking chemicals prepared by isomerizing dienoic or trienoic compounds to conjugated intermediates and then reacting the intermediates with unsaturated fatty acids, alcohols, amines, sorbitan esters or sorbitol esters and then alkoxylating the reaction product, and the detached printing ink particles are subsequently removed from the paper stock suspensions by flotation or washing. In an alternative embodiment, the conjugated intermediates are reacted with alkoxylated unsaturated fatty acids, alcohols, amines, sorbitan esters or sorbitol esters.</p> |
