A photo-electrostatic copying machine comprises a copy sheet supplying section 22 for severing copy sheets of selected sizes from webs of light sensitive material, a corona discharge charging station 26; an exposure station 28; a developer station 30 and a fusing station 32. A pre-selected length of material is fed from one of two rolls 68, 70 differing width by rollers 76 or 78 to a severing station 72 at a speed faster than sheet driving apparatus 34, comprising belts 38, 40 and rollers 36, feeds the severed sheet away from the station 72. Hence when the web is stopped for severing after the required length has been unwound, the apparatus 34 continues to feed the sheet to the exposure station 28, where it is eventually halted for a full frame exposure of an original 56. After exposure, the copy sheet is propelled through the developing station 30 where finely divided electro-scopic particles are deposited thereon by a magnetic brush 60. The image is then rendered permanent by heat from a heating unit 62, and the finished copy ejected on to a tray 48. The above sequence is carried out automatically once the length and width of the copy sheet have been selected and the apparatus started. Selection of a sheet size also controls the operation of positioning means at the exposure station properly to position each sheet in accordance with its size. Several successive copies of the same original may be made automatically. Web-severing mechanism Figs. 7, 8 (not shown).
