Lockable height-adjusting mechanism

The height-adjusting mechanisms used in tables, chairs or the like are frequently too complex for the tasks they perform, require too much material and are therefore too expensive and too heavy. The new lockable height-adjusting mechanism is to be capable of being produced with a small material requirement and low costs, is to be lightweight and is to permit a sufficiently large number of locking possibilities which are easy to set. Two hollow cylinders (1, 2) are fitted telescopically one inside the other, one (2), diametrically opposite, having cutouts (4) of different height and the other (1) having two pegs (3) which are located opposite transversely to the longitudinal axis and fit into the cutouts (4). The height adjustment is effected by lifting the cylinder (2) provided with the cutouts (4) above the pegs (3), turning it and lowering it so that the pegs (3) are situated in other cutouts (4).
