An X.25 network is provided comprising a data terminal 10, 11 connected to infrastructure equipment 22 via communication units 12, 13, wherein the data terminal 10, 11 is arranged to generate a data packet comprising a packet type 102 identifier which is a registration type identifier, a terminal address field 105 and a further field not specific to the network. A unique code is included in the further field 109 and the infrastructure equipment is arranged to recognise this code as a reconfiguration command and to perform a reconfiguration of data routing for the terminal identified in the address field to route data for the terminal identified in the address field to that terminal. This enables data terminals 10 and 11 to be interchanged, with data continuing to be sent to the appropriate data communication unit 12, 13. <IMAGE>
