In a process for dirty water disposal in the wet cleaning of furnaces, in particular oil furnaces, the polluted dirty water arising is passed into a separator collection vessel and the collected liquid is admixed with caustic soda (sodium hydroxide solution), the liquid being adjusted to a pH between 8 and 9. The suspended matter formed during this process containing the deposited pollutants settles out at the vessel bottom, so that the pollutant-free water situated above the sludge layer can be passed into the sewage system after a certain settling time. The settled sludge layer which, at about 10%, makes up only a small portion of the total amount of liquid necessary for the wet cleaning, is disposed of as special waste.
