POLYESTERIMIDES FOR USE IN LINEAR AND/OR NON-LINEAR OPTICS, AND ONE METHOD FOR PREPARING SAME

A novel polyesterimide including repetitive ester functions E = - CO - O -, repetitive imide functions (I), and at least one chromophore, wherein the amount of imide-cyclisable recurrent amide functions is no more than 5 mol % relative to the sum of imide functions and imide-cyclisable amide functions present, and the polymerisation functions essentially comprise E functions. The polyesterimide is preferably free of imide-cyclisable amide functions. One method for preparing said polyesterimide is also provided. Such a polymer may advantageously be used as a transparent and/or active material in non-linear optics and therefore is highly suitable for producing devices for use in linear and/or non-linear optics, e.g. filters, polarisers, waveguides, modulators, directional couplers, optical bistables, and photoconductive films.
