The instrument for measuring nonuniform magnetic fields (Hy) contains two parallel-connected bridge arms (Z1, Z2) of a bridge circuit (3), with in each case two magneto resistive sensor devices which have predetermined signs of their magnetic field-dependent resistance variations. According to the invention, it is intended for all sensor devices (E1 to E4) viewed in the measurement direction to be arranged next to one another in such a way that the outer sensor devices (E1 and E3) belong to different bridge arms (Z1, Z2) and the sensor devices (E1 to E4) have sensitivities matched to the nonuniformity. <IMAGE>
