When taking samples in the boundary region of bottom water and sediment with a core tube arrangement, it is particularly important to obtain undisturbed samples. The arrangement must furthermore be designed as compactly and simply as possible, in order to be convenient to handle and cost-effective. Particular effort should be made to reduce the time factor, in view of the enormously expensive ship times. The arrangement (1) according to the invention has a support frame (2) which is divided into two, only the upper support-frame part (3) being lowered with the tube. Size and weight are thereby considerably reduced. Furthermore, only the core tube (8) penetrates into the boundary region (33, 34, 35) and no progressive rotational (swirling) effect occurs. Additional forces are not required. The release mechanism, in the form of a lever (22) for closing the core tube (8), is particularly simply designed. Sampling of deep-sea ocean bottoms or lake bottoms by relatively large or small ships for oceanographic or limnological research; used on its own or in combination with other measuring devices.
