Unsteadiness compensation in solid state imagers

An apparatus for reducing the effect of smear in a TDI image detector comprises a charge accumulation device (304) which stores a row (308) of electrical charges representing a sensed image, the charges being blurred due to motion of the electronic imager. The imager includes a shift register (302) for generating a blurred video line by concatenating the blurred charges and an image unsteadiness compensator (312) which receives motion information from sensors (314) representing motion of the electronic imager. The image unsteadiness compensator (312) computes image wander of the blurred charges by using the motion information and generates a corrected video line from the blurred video line by using the image wander computation.
