<p>A treatment chamber is divided into two compartments connected at their lower end, and a continuous dyed web (of e.g. cotton, wool, viscose cellulose triacetate, polyester, nylon, polyacrylonitrile) passes downwardly through the first compartment and upwardly through the second compartment so that superheated fixing vapour, which is heavier than air (e.g. an aliphatic hydrocarbyl chloride, supplied from a heting circuit, moves in the same direction as the web in the first compartment, and in the opposite direction in the second compartment. Pref. the web inlet and outlet to the chamber are provided with evacuated seals to prevent the entry of air.</p> |
